FAQs
A starlight headliner is a custom interior upgrade where hundreds or even thousands of tiny fiber-optic lights are installed into your vehicle’s roof liner to recreate the appearance of a starry night sky. Each “star” is made using a fiber-optic strand that runs through the headliner and connects to a small light source module hidden behind the trim.
The module sends light through the fibers, causing each point to glow like a star. Because fiber optics carry light rather than electricity, the individual strands don’t heat up and are extremely safe for vehicle interiors. Our systems also allow for different brightness levels, twinkle effects, and color options, letting you customize the atmosphere of the cabin. The result is a luxury-style interior lighting effect inspired by high-end vehicles.
The number of stars you choose mainly depends on the look you want and the size of your vehicle’s roof. Lower counts, such as around 800 stars, create a more subtle and spaced-out starfield, which can look elegant and minimal. Mid-range options like 800 to 1,500 stars provide a fuller, more balanced appearance that many people prefer because it resembles a realistic night sky. Higher counts such as 1,500 to 2,500 stars produce a dense, dramatic galaxy-style effect with much more visual impact.
Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks often benefit from higher star counts to keep the spacing looking natural across the bigger headliner area. Ultimately, the best option comes down to personal preference and the style of atmosphere you want inside the vehicle.
Absolutely! At Wraptors, our starlight headliner kits come with full-spectrum LED lighting that allows you to change the color of the stars to virtually any shade you want. The system also includes a mobile app that lets you control different lighting patterns, brightness levels, and dynamic effects directly from your phone. In addition to the app, every system also comes with a physical remote for quick and easy control while inside the vehicle. This allows you to switch between colors, activate twinkle effects, or cycle through different lighting patterns depending on the atmosphere you want in the cabin.
The installation time can vary depending on the number of stars being installed and the type of vehicle. Because the process requires removing the headliner, individually placing hundreds or thousands of fiber-optic strands, trimming them, and reinstalling everything cleanly, it is a very detailed and time-intensive modification. On average, most starlight headliner installations take around one to three days to complete. Higher star counts and more complex designs—such as shooting stars, constellations, or layered star sizes—can require additional time. The goal of a professional installation is always precision and durability, ensuring the finished result looks seamless and factory-quality!
Typically, no. Most sunroofs cannot have starlights installed directly on them because of the way the mechanism works. In many vehicles, the sunroof panel slides back and retracts into a compact space behind the headliner when it opens. This area contains tracks, motors, and moving components that require clearance to function properly. Installing fiber-optic strands in that section would interfere with the movement of the sunroof and could potentially damage the mechanism or the lighting fibers over time.
In most cases, the starlight installation is done around the sunroof instead of on it. The surrounding headliner can still be filled with stars, which creates a very clean and impressive look while keeping the sunroof fully functional. When done properly, the stars frame the sunroof nicely and still give the interior that luxury starry-sky effect without affecting the operation of the roof.
